1. Suggest
means to give a suggestion that is to introduce or propose an idea or a plan for someone's consideration. Suggestions are abstract and can be in form of solutions, advice, plan, and idea. It can be accepted or refused. Social Function : to facilitate interpersonal communication between different people. For Example : Let's go home.
Expressions/Gambits
When making suggestions, we often use the following expressions :
- Let's ...
- Why don't we? ...
- We could ...
- What about ... ?
- How about ... ?
- I suggest that ...
- You might want to change ...
- I think ...
- I don't think ...
Examples of Suggestions
- Let's go to the library
- Why don't you do your homework before going out?

Haikal works at a bus agent located at Arjoso terminal. A stranger is walking approaching him bringing a suitcase.
Haikal: Hello, Sir. May I help you? Where’s your destination?
Rachmat: Yes. I need to go to Jakarta. How long will it take from this bus station? Is this Arjoso station?
Haikal: Yes. This is Arjoso bus station. It takes about 22 hours from here to Jakarta.
Rachmat: What time will it leave?
Haikal: It will leave at 02.30 p.m. So, you just need to wait for 45 minutes.
Rachmat: Do I have to change buses after arriving in Jakarta?
Haikal: After arriving in Lebak Bulus Terminal, you have a lot of options to reach your final destination. You can get in a ‘Trans Jakarta’ bus, metro mini, bajaj, taxi as well as ojek. You can ask the bus driver there.
Rachmat: Thank you. I will buy the bus ticket, then.
Haikal: Wait a moment, please, I’ll process it quickly.
